Sandor Leopold Landeau (Hungarian born-American, 1864-1924) noted painter, muralist, graphic & stained glass designer and teacher known for his works in oil of religious paintings, landscapes, marine scenes, portraits, plein air painting, and genre scenes from regions such as France, Italy, Palestine, Greece and the United States.

He studied with Jean Paul Laurens (French, 1838-1921) and Benjamin Jean-Joseph Constant (French, 1845-1902), at the Academie Julian in Paris, France, and also with the well known Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy (Hungarian, 1844-1900) in Paris.  While studying at the Academie Julian, he met fellow art student Alexis Jean Fournier (American, 1865-1948), who also was a student of Laurens and Constant.  This meeting would prove invaluable later in his life when he joined Elbert Hubbard's (American, 1856-1915) Roycroft community of Arts & Crafts artisans in East Aurora, NY in 1915.  Landeau along with his family, lived for about tw   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 50252 characters.]  Artist bio
